Has anyone had any luck using the Orca Compress utility on 5.0.2?? Every thing I try with it gives me a ProDOS access error... -- Bruce (bkahn@archive.rtp.dg.com or kahn@adam.dg.com) Standard disclaimers apply, except where prohibited by law...

Under 5.0.x, COMPRESS works only on volumes that *don't* have any files open. On your boot disk, the *:System:System.Setup:Sys.Resources file is always open. So boot up from a different disk when you want to compress directories on your boot volume. Mike Westerfield of the Byte Works is well aware of the situation. He consider's GS/OS's refusal to do block writes to a volume with open files to be a bug, and Apple considers it a feature. Keeping a floppy handy to boot from when needed is a reasonable solution. -- David A. Lyons, Apple Computer, Inc. | DAL Systems Apple II Developer Technical Support | P.O.
