Well, I ordered a 3M SCSI tape drive from HSC ($129) and am expecting it to arrive any day now. The only problem now is, does anyone know of any freeware/shareware SCSI tape backup software available for the Apple II/IIGS? The only SCSI tape backup software I'm currently aware of is Tim Grams HDTape, but I'm kinda short the $50 price tag right now, and he doesn't take American Express :^). I believe the tape drive only comes with a 30 day warrantee and I'd like to make sure it all works properly right away in case I have any problems with it. How difficult would it be to write a utility to test the tape drive? What references would I need? I have Orca/C and most of Apple's published manuals. Vitesse makes a really nice backup program, however I don't know if it supports SCSI tapes properly or not. It is also commercial but there are mail order houses that will take Am.Exp., find a recent A+/Incider and browse around. Todd Whitesel toddpw @ tybalt.caltech.edu

Well, I did some more searching and found a SCSI Tape backup utility that's freeware. However, I'm still waiting for my Tape drive to arrive so I don't know how well this software works, but I'll post it to comp.binaries.apple2 anyway for anyone else to try it out.
