I'm hoping to kill two birds with one stone. A friend with a new GS needs more RAM to run Appleworks GS; I'd like to increase my RAM in my old GS. The solution, I hope, is to sell him my old Apple Ramcard, increasing his ram from 1.125 to 2.125 megs, and then buying a new ramcard for my GS. This brings forth the following questions: 1. Will the standard Apple brand GS ramcard (the one that fits into the auxiliary slot in my GS) work on his Rom 3 GS? I would assume so, but want to double check before putting it in his machine. 2. Will 2 megs be sufficient for him? His main application is Appleworks GS . 3. What ramcard should I buy and should I buy it populated or bare and then install my own chips? Some options I've seen are: (I want at least 2 megs and probably don't need any more for a while but would like the future capacity for more.) a. A2-Central advertises the Chinook RAM 4000 for $99 with no memory installed, $269 with 2 megs installed. b. Programs Plus advertised the GS Sauce with 2 megs for $269. c. Ingenuity advertised the GS Juice Plus for $99 with 1 meg, $175 with 2 megs and $299 with 4 megs. That seems like the best deal, but do they still exist? I can also probably get 3 megs worth of discarded 256K Simms taken out of a Mac gratis if there's a card that accepts them. Alan H. I bought a GS Sauce, unpopulated, from LRO computer sales ($89+s&h, 800-869-9152), and have been extremely pleased with it for three weeks or so. It takes SIMMs. > I can also probably get 3 megs worth of discarded 256K Simms taken >out of a Mac gratis if there's a card that accepts them. Only card I know of is the OctoRAM, but that only takes 8 simms (2 megs if you use 256K'ers). Don't know of any cards that take more -- there's isn't much space left in the case at that point, anyway... Todd Whitesel toddpw @ tybalt.caltech.edu
