I got my GSOS upgraded recently to 5.0.2 and discovered that there's a
nasty bug in there. If the disk it wants isn't in the drive, it freezes.
Is there a patch for this or some other way to handle it? This is really
annoying!

Bowie,
Currently, there is no fix for that problem. Luckily, it is
isolated. The problem is not in GS/OS itself, but in the new version of
one of the toolsets. It actually only happens when a program uses the
standard load/save dialogs that most desktop programs use. Hopefully
this will be fixed in System 6.0
