From: Bud Spurgeon <SPURGEON at SUMEX-AIM> While idly looking through a compendium of events I happened across the following; "Christmas Greetings From Space Anniversary Dec. 19 At 3:15 p.m. E.D.T., Dec 19, 1958, the U.S. Earth satellite, Atlas, began first radio voice broadcast from space, a 58-word recorded Christmas greeting from president Dwight D. Eisenhower 'to all mankind America's wish for peace on earth and good will toward men everywhere.' Satellite had been launched from Cape Canaveral on previous day." -from "Chases' Calendar of Annual Events" We've come a long way since then! -Bud -------
