Thanks go to Robert MacAusland for bringing to my attention the unauthorized presence of Apple(R) Software in the uploads directory on tybalt.caltech.edu. I have removed three files, which were binscii &/or Shrinkit of both 5.0.2 system disks and the SynthLab beta disk. PLEASE DO NOT UPLOAD SOFTWARE TO TYBALT UNLESS YOU KNOW IT IS LEGAL TO DO SO!! While I admit a disagreement in principle with Apple's distribution policy, I must fully concur with the legal reasons behind it. If Apple's official software were to be released via uncontrolled channels (like anonymous FTP), people could add viruses (or worse) to the system disks &/or beta software releases and redistribute them under the guise of Apple's label. This would be bad for all of us and is in fact worse than piracy because it undermines confidence in the most important software we own: our system disks. I would gladly distribute these disks via FTP if I had authorization to do so; however, I believe that the legal procedures holding up Apple's own FTP site would make it impossible for me to obtain such authorization. To anyone who downloaded the disks before I got to them: I will trust you to delete them. Todd Whitesel toddpw @ tybalt.caltech.edu
