this article is a followup to an article originally on comp.sys.apple

There is a program called AmDos that is either freeware or shareware,
you must use one of these programs to format the 3.5 inch disk, then
you are left with two volumes of 400K, called drive 1 and drive 3 I think.
I've never tried an amdos formatted disk outside of Amdos, so its possible
if your commercial program were copy protected that this scheme might not
work, but it costs nothing to try.

DOS 3.3 is the final version of Dos, after that apple went to prodos,
and many things became much easier to do...

an intermediate step to a mac? whatever for? All you need to do is save
your program listing on the apple in ascii format (very simple to do),
then transfer it to the IBM using a communications package of some sort
(Kermit is a good bet) then load the program on the IBM using the switch
for an ascii coded basic program...

Then you have to change it manually to work on your IBM. Shouldn't be a big
deal...

On the Apple ][, DOS 3.3 does not recognize the 3.5 inch disk drive
because it (DOS 3.3) was made before the 3.5 inch disk was. One thing you
might want to do is to convert the file(s) to ProDOS, using Copy ][ plus...
Unless you do that, there is no other way then to re-write your DOS...
On converting the files to IBM... Well, I donna know. Possibly if you
can change the .DOC or .TXT files on the IBM to BASIC, possibly using a BASIC
program-writer (QuickBasic or the like...) or something... But you would have
to call up your PS/2 or a friend's IBM and transfer the file as a text file...
To convert the BASIC file (on the Apple) to a text file, you enter
this as line 0 (if you already don't have a line 0)...
        0 D$ = CHR$(4) : PRINT D$"OPEN XXXXX" : PRINT D$"WRITE XXXXX" : LIST
1,63999 : PRINT D$"CLOSE XXXXX" : PRINT "DONE!" : END
On the line above, you must replace the 'XXXXX' with the name you want
to give your text file.

I have had some trouble with prodos, when I transfer my dos 3.3 bianary
files to prodos and use the basic that comes with it. My files are old
games. Sometimes, they work part ways, other times they don't work at all
Do I need another sys.basic????

Also, does the AMR 3 1/2 drives work on a //e?

Maybe your DOS 3.3 binaries make calls to DOS 3.3 routines. If they do, then
ProDOS will certainly choke on them.

AMR drives are just another SmartPort drive, so something like a Central Point
Universal Disk Controller should make them work fine with a IIe.

Two Questions:

1. Does anyone have the operating instructions for a Mountain Computer clock
card for use in an Apple ][+ ? Zerox'ed copy would be nice or just the basics
like switch settings, if any, and Peek's Pokes to set time or use with ProDos
(if this is possible.)

2. Am converting PFS DOS 3.3 files to ProDos but am not getting a good
conversion with the shareware program from 40 columns to 80 columns with word
wrap. Anyone successfully doing this and if so, what version of the program?
Would love to get an update if it works correctly.
