[comp.sys.apple2] GS Fatal System Errors

tg.exc@pro-harvest.cts.com (Terry Guelfo) (09/09/90)

Does anyone have the complete list of GS Fatal System errors and the codes
typed out? I would appreciate a posting. I would find a list like this very
useful, and I really don't want to go out and buy a $30 book I will never use
just to get the list. Thanks...

There is a newly released shareware CDA called "Error Codes". It is
on AOL, and I would guess some of the other major services.. The latest
version gives all of the ProDos 8, GSOS, Basic, and GS System Errors,
all at the tip of your fingers.. It remains active even if you are in
basic or P8.. It is quite good.. and would answer your problem..

There is a CDA available named "ErrorCodes" that has listings of System Disk,
P8, BASIC, and most Fatal System Errors. I have a copy of it here if anybody
would like it (it is freeware).

I have also been told that NiftyList CDA will tell you the error code if you
type in 'xxxx\err', where xxxx is the error to check.

This is a misleading problem at best. You can invoke a "Fatal System Error"
by calling the Toolbox routine SysFailMgr, and you pass it an error code. In
other words, you can have absolutely any value show up on that screen and you
can't be too sure what it means. Many programs do pass legitimate toolbox and
OS errors, although many others don't.

Nifty List 3.0's "Goodies" module also inclues a "\err" command which does the
same thing. Even better, you can edit the NList.Data file to change yours.

Thanks to all who replied. I will check out some of those CDA's. I
appreciate the help.

Matt Deatherage: whoa! Calling Toolbox routines... I don't program. I was
merely wanting a list of the most common Fatal System Errors so I'd at least
know what's going on when I get one. Thanks for the extra info, though. It's
always appreciated! :)
