[comp.sys.apple2] Apple // or not?

cyliao@hardy.u.washington.edu (Chun-Yao Liao) (09/23/90)

Hi guys, I havent been able to keep up with this newsgroup mainly because
I moved to another platform, but I miss my Apple // so much... but no one
seems to understand it. I mean, people laughed at me when they see me
using a 8 bit computer. Of course, I defended my little //c, but no one
really takes it seriously. What I am saying is that although a computer
might be great, but it is useless if people don't know about it.
I moved to this new platform (no, not ms-dos, I don't want to die! Amiga? no!
Atari? don't even mention it! just say a big big power personal workstation
that will give you .2-.3 MHz Apple II when running that Apple II emulator
written in C language...) after (oops, next line please)
I gave up all my faith with Apple Computer. What happened to the soon-to-be-
released ROM04 GS?

Ok, people say because a company won't invest more to a product that no longer
give them profit. Think about this, WHY THIS COMPANY CANNOT MAKE ANYMORE
PROFIT FROM THIS PARTICULAR PRODUCT? I definitely don't need to repeat all
the thousand reasons to answer this question but just to mention a few.
Although I am engineering majored, I have common sense too (and I took some
economics courses too) One product does not sale well compared to similar
product when the satisfaction at the same price level is lower. Simply
put it this way, people want to get the most out of their investment.
Apple's products, in my opinion, has always been over priced.

of course, that was not the only reason people don't buy (or buy) a product.
Sometimes advertising makes difference. In today's PC world, people talks
about MHz, the larger #, the faster it is. Of course, we the Computer People
knows that you cannot simply compare cpu clock to define the power of a
computer, but most people don't take this. So, the impressin people have
when they realize that Apple // is 1 MHZ computer, they just laugh at
it and say "oh, a toy computer". It's sad.

I've been awaiting for that ROM04 killer machine to be out, I even recommanded
lots peoples who was deciding buying a computer to wait a few months and
get the NEW GS. Guess they all went to ms-dos world by now. I hated it
when I give so much confidence on the company and all I got was cold water
poured from my head to toes. I suddenly lost all the loyalty of being a
Apple computer owner/user...

What has Apple done on the //GS in the last 1 year period of time? Ok, you
say Apple had done this this and this, but then, try to compare "these"
to what Apple had done to the Macs... no comments... really. I just don't
see where the "continuous support" is. I remembered to see this from a
publication quoted from John Scully(or whatever way you spell it. I never
liked Pepsi anyway), now I wonder if he has lips.

I got lots more to say, but I get sad everytime I think about it. I know
there's been lots complains, and those complains always had been flamed.
So flame me if you want, but while wasting your time flaming me, why not
express your feeling to Apple? I don't believe ALL Apple // users are
happy with the current Apple Comp. Inc. (And yes, I talked with Apple, they
just apologize with mouth, and forget it in the next second.)

I still love my Apple, and will get a GS if possible. I just don't have
enough financial ability to keep my new platform. I know I will be forced to
sell it if I don't want to endup dying starving.

Sorry to waste the band width, there will be no more articles like this
from me in the future. Kind like saying good-bye to the Apple, but I am
still holding my last hope with Apple. I don't know for how long I can
hold it though.

The once most faithful Apple user/owner/whatever.
