Subject: HELP - WORDSTAR on a II+ with VIDEX Videoterm, no Ctrl-K???
I have two Apple II+ machines. I just got the second one second hand as a word
processor for one of my college kids. I have been working with Wordstar on my
primary machine which has BOTH a VIDEX Videoterm and Keyboard Enhancer. It
works great. The new machine has only the Videoterm 80-column board in slot and
has the standard Apple II keyboard. There are other variables in the machines
configured as follows:
Primary Apple that works:
16K Memory Expansion - Apple Language Card
CP/M card - MICROPRO STARCARD (Applicard application) in slot 5
Keyboard - Videx Keyboard Enhancer with shift key modification
Terminal - VIDEX Videoterm in slot 3
CP/M - Digital Research Operating system delivered with STARCARD by license to
Micropro for use on the Applicard.
New Apple that doesn't sense Ctrl-K:
16 K Memory Expansion - Apple Language Card
CP/M card - Digital Research CPM/CARD (TM) in slot 4
Keyboard - standard Apple II with one wire shift key modification
Terminal - VIDEX Videoterm in slot 3
The problem is that on the new machine without the enhanced keyboard WORDSTAR
will not recognize the Ctrl-K to enter the menu to save documents. I get either
a bracket <[> or a brace <{> depending on the Ctrl-A state of the videoterm. On
the enhanced keyboard machine the Ctrl-A interface with the Videoterm seems
disconnected and the Ctrl-A is passed to WORDSTAR properly with the bracket and
brace being generated by the enhancer per documentation. I have no problem with
the machine with the enhanced keyboard. I have tried each of the different
WORDSTAR configuration options for terminals both with and without the one wire
shift modification. I see there is a note in my videoterm manual from VIDEX
about a problem with Ctrl-K and Ctrl-M and WORDSTAR Ver 3.0 that states VIDEX
expected MICROPRO to correct the problem in a later release. I have Ver 3.31.
Does anyone on the net have a solution to this problem other than getting
another keyboard enhancer.
