[comp.sys.apple2] DMA SCSI

I would like to purchase the new DMA SCSI, but I'm wondering if I need to
reformat my hd to use the new card? I'm using a jasmine directdrive 80 with
the older version SCSI card by apple.

From what I recall the only time you have to reformat is when you switch
from a CMS scsi card to an Apple or vice versa. The drive formats are somewhat
different.

I would suggest a backup prior to changing interfaces however.

In you response to my question about the need to reforemat my hd, it appears
that most of the message was lost or something. I would still like to know if
I need to reformat my hd, and also if any one has had there system lockup
during boot with the DMA SCSI card in slot 7 and booting from slot 5?

I reformatted mine when I switched from the CMS SCSI to the Apple DMA SCSI
adapter. That's because the two interfaces used different formats on the
drive.

I also reformatted the other night because I wanted to change the interleave
from the "mystery" interleave the High Speed SCSI disk left me with to a 2:1
interleave. The 2:1 that ADU leaves me with is slightly faster.

Speaking of interleave, how does one go about getting a 5:1 or 7:1 interleave
on the new DMA SCSI card? I can't find a utility that will recognize the
DMA card.

As for locking up, nope, it's never happened.
