[comp.sys.apple2] Re Apple Inc.: Hopefully the last time!!

bill@braille.uwo.ca (Bill Carss) (10/24/90)

Here I am again gang, with a bit of *bitching* to do...

There have been several articles over the last little
while (and I have even written one or two of them) which
be-moan the fact that Apple Inc. is shafting Apple Ii users.
After giving it some serious thought I have come to the
following conclusions:

1. We are only shafted if we think we are!!!

It doesn't matter if Apple Inc. discontinues every
piece of Apple II related hardware except the much touted
//e emulator card for the almighty Mac. When you purchased
your computer, did you plan on Apple Inc. holding your hand
every time you turned it on? Or similarly, when you sat
down to write your first BASIC program, did you want good
old Apple Inc. to type it in for you? NO!! CERTAINLY NOT!!

When you purchased your equipment, and subsequently
when you have purchased upgrades and improvements, you did
so because you have a love for the machine and what it
allows you to do that transcends everything else. That is
why you own your computer, not because Apple Inc. told you
to, or not because Joe (No offense Joe's out there) told you
to or even bought one himself. You bought your equipment
because you wanted to have it and to use it and to enjoy
it!!

It makes little or no difference what Apple Inc. does.
If you want to write programs for the II series do it. If
you want to develop some amazing new piece of hardware do
that too *PLEASE*!!! We can use every inovation we can come
up with.

2. The Apple // series is ENDURING!!!

The fact that there still are Apple //'s out there and
that people are still writing software for them proves that
they are good machines. Furthermore, just because the
corporation that originally introduced the world to the
Apple computer doesn't have the smarts to stick with them,
who cares? It will be their funeral.

Has anyone ever heard of the LASER 128? Last I heard
they were selling great guns!! I wonder why that is? Could
it be that we have purchased (and they have copied and
improved) one of the best personal computers the world has
ever seen? I think maybe it could!!

3. The Sky is the Limit!!!

We are only limited by our imaginations and ingenuity
as to the wonders that are available through these machines.
It is totally up to us what happens with the Apple II.
There have been a couple of occasions in the past when Apple
Inc. has announced the demise of the line - they have again,
and they will again in the future - but even if they
officially stop making them, WE STILL HAVE OURS!! WE CAN
CONTINUE TO DEVELOP AND UTILIZE THEM IN UNHEARD OF WAYS THAT
WILL BOGGLE OUR MINDS.

Come on folks!! The only thing worth complaining about
is the fact that so many people are complaining. Let's
"Get off the pot" as it were and either start making use of
the equipment that we have chosen or buy something else. No
ONe IS PREVENTING ANYONE FROM PURCHASING SAY A 386 OR AN
AMIGA. If you don't like the way things are going, sell
your machine and subscribe to some other news group and
complain over there!!

PERSONALLY I HAVE HAD MORE THAN ENOUGH BELLY-ACHING!!!
