In-Reply-To: message from alfter@uns-helios.nevada.edu Scott expresses some doubt about upgrading the ][c. In fact, if you don't mind using a screw driver, you can add some interesting boards including memory boards (Applied Engineering makes several flavors including one with a clock and Z-80 chip if you like) and the Zip chip. I've done both for several of our club members who were just a bit timid about opening up the C. Now they can run large desktops with Appleworks just like those on the ][e. Of course, if I had my choice, I'd prefer a Laser 128 EX2, but that's another story now that Apple has apparently abandoned the ][ line. ______________________________________________________________________________ Mike Ungerman |Proline:mikeu@pro-magic Pro-Magic BBS: 407-366-0156 |uucp:crash!pnet01!pro-magic!mikeu 300/1200/2400/9600 Baud 24hrs |arpa:crash!pnet01!pro-magic!mikeu@nosc.mil Apple Tree of Central Florida, Inc |Internet:mikeu@pro-magic.cts.com Orlando, Florida|Voice:407-366-0060|Compuserve:71326,31 Prodigy: JSNP58A

In fact, if you don't I didn't doubt that the IIc was a fixed-configuration (read: closed) system; I know that there are a handful of products available for expanding the IIc. However, the IIc is nowhere near as expandable as the IIe (or any other slotted II). That's why I don't particularly care for the IIc. Some people might like the plug-and-play approach it takes. (If that's the case, the IIGS does the same while still giving you a full set of expansion slots--and bunches of other goodies, if you have the $$$.) Others might need something that's easily portable. (Regarding portability, someone in the local user group made quite a "luggable" out of his GS--the box, a 3.5" drive, a 5.25" drive, Apple RGB monitor, Apple 40-meg SCSI HD--all tied down to a wooden board that was probably no more difficult to carry around than a Mac Portable. :-) ) The rest of us, though, want a system that'll be cheap and easy to upgrade. (Didn't I say this before? Maybe I should quit repeating myself. :-) ) ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Scott Alfter _/_ / v \ Apple II: Internet: alfter@uns-helios.nevada.edu ( ( the power to be your best!
