Is there a simple way to get a //e to do Appletalk? The most elegant solution discovered so far is to upgrade each //e with a //gs kit, add about a meg of memory, and just use Appletalk from the //gs desktop. Is there a simpler (and less expensive) way to do it? Mike acmunix@zeus.unomaha.edu acmunix@unoma1.bitnet

Sounds like a job for the Apple //e Workstation Card by Apple. I used to have a blurb on this but in any case it'll do what you want. Todd Whitesel toddpw @ tybalt.caltech.edu

I don't really call that elegant, but I sure like it! You're converting all the computers to GSes which is an idea I like! (The more GSes, the better, I say.. there's support in numbers) I presume that's for a school, right? That won't help me solve your problem, I was just curious. >I had heard that there was an appletalk board out for the // line, but >other than that, I know nothing about it. I don't know if they ever released an Appletalk card... I remember one of my housemates from last year talking about a "workstation card" if I remember the name right.. I --think-- that was the Appletalk card but it was BASICALLY another //e on the card... at least another 6502 and memory I think... And if I am right that workstation card == Appletalk card, then it either wasn't released (infeasible or too expensive for consumers), or it was released and it just didn't sell. But I'll just say again that I am nowhere near positive that what I remember hearing about IS the AppleTalk card... Just thought it MIGHT help though if someone else gives some confirmation. They sure must give out lots of T Shirts at Apple! Someone I sort of know who started working at Apple on the 15th got a T shirt that very same day! (And I think got paid for watching or going to the Mac presentation). Also, my housemate had a few Apple T shirts, one of which had Rocky & Bullwinkle on it and said something about the "65XXX" project. It -wasn't- referring to the GS though and I don't recall what it referred to. (Might have been the workstation card for all I remember! heh) -- / Apple II(GS) Forever! unknown@ucscb.ucsc.edu \ \"If cartoons were meant for adults, they'd be on in prime time."-Lisa Simpson/

Apple has the 'Apple // Workstation Card' or words to that effect; it's a Localtalk adapter for the //e. It DOES exist; my wife's school upgraded about a dozen //e's so they could be served (along with four //GS's) from their one Mac. Go prod your nearest dealer; cost as I recall her mentioning was around $150, though that is probably after school discounting. In-Reply-To: message from acmunix@zeus.unomaha.edu You can buy an AppleTalk card for the IIe. Or I should say used to be able to. Contact your local Apple dealer and I am sure they will be will to sell you one for less than the IIgs upgrade (I didn't know they still offered that one). BTW: be prepared to kiss their @#$. The darned thing cost us $240.00. Pretty rediculas. ---- ProLine: rgibson@pro-applephelia Internet: rgibson@pro-applephelia.cts.com UUCP: crash!pro-applephelia!rgibson ARPA: crash!pro-applephelia!rgibson@nosc.mil
