On page 25 of the Fall '82 Nasa Tech Briefs (NASA, Technology Transfer
Division, PO Box 8757, Baltimore/Washington International Airport, MD 21240.
It's "free", that is, the money has already been stolen from you) is a
description of a sunlight-pumped laser.  Not too efficient - perhaps 1%,
but there is a LOT of sunlight in space.  The perflouropropyliodide
( C3 F7 I ) gas dissasociates a bit during lasing, but apparently can be
reprocessed. Nifty.  In general this rag has about 6 neat ideas and a few
hundred stupid ones every three months;  worth a look in your library...
