[net.space] Ariane L-6 Delayed

karn (01/27/83)

The following is quoted from Aviation Week and Space Technology, Jan 17, 1982,
page 27.

"Sixth flight of Europe's Ariane launcher is facing possible new delays as
program personnel work on third-stage engine modifications and ground
verification checks required after the failure of Ariane 5 last September
(AW&ST Sept. 20 1982, p. 20). The sixth flight is now expected in May or
June, although a firm date will not be set until after review meetings.
The launch had been planned for November, 1982, but was pushed back to the
second half of April after the No. 5 Ariane's failure (AW&ST Nov. 1, 1982,
p. 24)."

Note that this launch is the one scheduled to carry Amsat Phase-3B in a
dual-payload carrier along with the primary payload, ECS-1.
