In reply to the article which described the current political situation in Germany in which people are fired from their jobs as schoolteachers for having left-wing tendencies or who are suspected of left-wing sympathies: Yes, this is reminiscent of the Hitler era. But no, this is not new. It is merely the German national character. When the terrorist organizations like the Red Brigade and the (correct spelling?) Baader Meinhof gang were running around the German legislature outlawed those specific groups. An article on this subject appeared several years back in The New Yorker. Essentially the crux of the matter is that here in the USA it is unconstitutional to make a law against any specific individual or group. But in Germany this is not so. Let's just say that the American Civil Liberties Union would not be able to defend many Civil Liberties within the context even of the 1980's German society--you may draw your own conclusions about whether the German people get what they deserve!
