OK, everyone else is talking about how great their RAMFast is, but I've got a serious problem: It doesn't work with AppleTalk!!! I just got the card Wednesday (didn't install it until last night, though), and the ROM says V1.1 on it--are these the new ROMs? Does anyone know if the old ROMs work with AppleTalk? Since I have no need for support of removable devices, I can swap my new ROMs for someone's old ones if they work with Appletalk. How do I know it's Appletalk? Everything works great form P8. No problems. I try to boot GSOS, and about half way through the boot (just about the time it would be loading the Laserwriter drivers), it crashes into the monitor with an infinite number of BRKs/COPs/etc. (as in, it continues to beep...like interrupts are causing the problem. Hint hint). If I simply go to the control panel (thank god for Ctrl-Ap-ESC), set slot 7 to 'my card' and reboot, everything works great (except that I can't print from AWGS...). No setting of DIP switches seems to help (DMA on/off, termination on/off, etc.) Printing to a Laserwriter is much more important to me than fast drive access (especially since I have no easy method of backing up 20 megs worth of data to reformat the drive from 8:1 to 1:1 without using Appleshare...). I plan to call CVT on Tuesday (when I have a chance) unless someone else can make a suggestion. However, I really like how RAMFast works, even at such a horrible interleave. Boot time cut in half. It's really nice, except for this one problem...sigh. Kent Dickey kadickey@phoenix.Princeton.EDU

I use mine with AppleTalk all the time. It sounds like you are trying to run AppleTalk and the RamFast out of slot 7. You cannot use slot 7 for AppleTalk and for a card at the same time (not with this card anyway). Rick Fincher rnf@hobbes.catt.ncsu.edu > Kent Dickey >kadickey@phoenix.Princeton.EDU

From kadickey@phoenix.Princeton.EDU (Kent Andrew Dickey): > I just got the card Wednesday (didn't install it until last night, > though), and the ROM says V1.1 on it--are these the new ROMs? Does The new ROM's should be version 2.0 Do you have the RAMFast in slot 7? Will it work in slot 6? I'm asking because you have to switch the Control Panel setting for slot 7 to "AppleTalk" instead of "My Card". Maybe that has something to do with it? If possible, try sticking the RAMFast in slot 6 and setting it to "Your Card". You'll have to sacrifice the 5.25" drive to do that though. If it works correctly from slot 6 WITH AppleTalk turned on, then I think that is your problem. \/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/ | Brian T. Or you can try it in slot 3 or slot 4. If it will work in 3 or 4 you won't have to lose the 5.25" drive. Actually you won't lose anything.
