There are hidden costs involved in switching platforms mainly in purchasing software that only replaces what you already have. In my case it would cost in excess of $9000 to replace my GS with a Mac II (used of course). The hardware is half of that and the software is the other half. And this gets me a machine that does exactly what I am now doing with the GS, I am keeping the Imagewriter II. In general, Mac software costs between 2 and 5 times equvalent , for home use, Apple II products, so expanding on the system will be much more costly. The mac gets me a faster machine, with less memory, but better graphics, but with a more expensive enhancement cost. Basically it works out even in the end. The Amiga is a slightly different story in that software is generally no more than 50% more expensive than the GS. However development is not as large as on the Mac, and much less than on the IBM, however you might find special purpose applications that are not available elsewhere. What it comes down to is choosing the system that is right for you and ignore all the other people who have chosen the system that is right for them.
