About a year ago I remember seeing a program which would run on an Apple II or II+ and give the user 80 columns without additional hardware. I think the program was written in Germany, and had the problem of flickering badly. I had a copy of it lying around somewhere, but it seems to have vanished. I believe it used the hi-bit pixel shift effect and page flipping to achieve a DHR effect for 80 column text, but did not work while text was scrolling, and looked bad on a color monitor. If someone knows where I can locate this program, please leave me mail. -- __ _____________ __ \ \_\ \__ __/ /_/ / Do you know what you have done? \greg@hoss.unl.edu/ Do you know what you've begun? \_\ \_\|_|/_/ /_/ --Genesis, _Domino_, _Invisible Touch_

If >someone knows where I can locate this program, please leave me mail. > While currently I cant remember the name of the program, my latest, rather up-to-date filelist of the APPLE2-L list on the LISTSERV@BROWNVM.Bitnet still shows the following entry: APPLE2-L 88-00541 ALL OWN V 75 208 88/03/16 00:03:41 -> 80 column text for ][s in software, 4-BIT PACKING. So a "GET APPLE2-L 88-00541 APPLE2-L" mailed to the LISTSERV@BROWNVM.Bitnet should give you a copy (in the self-decoding Executioner-format "4-BIT PACKING"). Therefore, you might also find it on one of the Apple II FTP archives (didnt check that). If both sources fail to supply you with a useable copy, ring me and Ill pack the files and send them off to you. PS: I *do* remember that the authors name is Mark Kriegsman (sp ?) and at least his 80 column software doesnt come from Germany. ____________________________________________________________________________ __ M a t t h i a s K a p f f e r email: Kapffer@uaimza.Mathematik.Uni-Mainz.DE
