I have just begun an Apple Users' and just joined another. One of my goals is to put out a monthly disk with all the standard "articles" such as what's new, reviews, a small sample of new public domain software, etc. I'm very fluent in Applesoft and like to do many creative "add-ons" to my programs, so I've aspired to right the programs selection and management portion of the disk myself. . . just to keep it more personal to the club. While working last night, I came upon two stumbling blocks: 1) How can I pass a filename to an application? For instance, I've seen ProSel and saw that it will load the application AND allow you to select the file you wish to work with. It really must not be quite as difficult as it looks. . . the application must just have a spot in memory for the name. Correct? How can I do that from BASIC? 2) I've already created an awesome startup sound which I could play by first making the disk boot in ProDOS 16, play the sound, and drop into ProDOS 8. That would take a great deal of time and disk space and it's just not worth it. Does anyone have a creative way to just play a GS sound from BASIC? I first need to know what bank and location of memory to send the sound and then how I can send a quick command to the Toolbox to play it. It's probably not all that easy, but once I saw a little public domain piece where a person poked a simple sine wave into the memory of the GS and played a song with very little difficulty. . . it was a short routine. Unfortunately, I lost that demo so I'm back to square one. Any help on either of these problems would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot. William K. Fry wkf2298@ritvax
