[comp.sys.apple2] PMMU???? What???? Where???? How?????

avery@netcom.UUCP (Avery Colter) (11/25/90)

Now, someone mentioned some immanent coming of a PMMU for the GS?

This is the first I've ever heard of such a thing!

Why goodness, even the Macs need their PMMU in order to run A/UX.

One could conceivably port a weaker version of AUX to the GS around
such a unit! The ORCA shell already does a good job of implementing
a CLI. Hmmmmm, interesting stuff in the air.

I'd still like to know how the Cirtech people can be contacted. I still
want to know what the planned layout of the card is, whether it will
ideally support Macintosh video cards to use Mac monitors... still
curious about their progress.

Hello, IIgs fans!

Sorry to tell you that, but the "Duet" project has been stopped after i:mall
of the development process has been done. The reason, as you will all know:

Cirtech has seen no clear commitment from Apple towards the IIgs and no in-
dications that the IIgs will be marketeeted positively. So they are in fear
that they will not get back their investment in the developing and produc-
tion of the Duet board. If Apple makes such a commitment in future, they
will resume the marketing and will introduce the "almost finished" board.

I talked about that to John Robertson, one of the engineers of the Duet,
and got that response.

A2 Central, the US distributor of Cirtech products, is fully aware of that
situation and is in close contact to Apple's responsible managers.

Yes, thats not very good. If Apple doesn't support this "Bridge" to the
Macintosh, what else on the IIgs will they support.

BTW, the duet has NO special video output, so you (and I) cannot connect
your Multisync monitor to the Duet directly.

BTW again, the IIc+ has been removed from Apple's price lists and is now
history...

Looks like a good time to fire up Infinitum again perhaps?
