I would like to know if anyone has found a source for 8-pin mini-DIN cables that connect to, say, a Hayes-compatible modem (DB25 RS-232) and also passes the DTR and DCD signals through. I've had a terrible time trying to locate cables like this, which seem so easily available for other computers, such as the IBM PC. Yet no cable that I've been told will work has tested to pass both signals straight through. I'm trying to distribute my BBS software, which needs these two signals. (Unlike most terminal programs, which don't rely on being able to hang up on users or detect calls using anything but text messages from the modem.) I feel uncomfortable telling people they need to make their own cables, as I have done to get around this irritation. -- Shawn P. An alternative to using special modem cables is to use a RS232 breakout box
available at Radio Shack and other places. They usually sell for about $15 to
$25. I got mine at a Heathkit store for about $15 at few years back.
