I figured out yesterday why my modem was hanging up when I connected to GEnie and Compu$erve after installing my Zip Chip. It's almost diabolical. I had specified a time limit of 30 seconds to connect in the terminal program I was using. However, the program apparently uses cycles rather than the clock to determine time, so that the "30 seconds" went by in about 10 seconds with the Zip Chip in, since it just about triples the speed of my computer. Thus, by the time the connection was made, the time limit was up and the connection was terminated. I solved the problem by changing the time limit to 90 seconds. __________________________________________________________ | | | Alan H. Instead, press Open-Apple-M to get the settings menu. At the bottom of the screen you will see option 0, the time constant. Instead of tripling the time you wait for the "CONNECT" message, triple the time constant. The default is 10, but you probably already were using a faster number on your GS. Just triple the number that's already there. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Scott Alfter _/_ / v \ Apple II: Internet: alfter@uns-helios.nevada.edu ( ( the power to be your best!
