[comp.sys.apple2] What to do with a ][ - answers!

dl1@ukc.ac.uk (D.Langford) (12/10/90)

I asked a few days ago for suggestions on using my old ][ EuroPlus; it
seemed a good idea to summarise for the net, in case there might be a few
more machines gathering dust out there!

I have an old Europlus (220 v, 50hz) and european monitor myself. run them on
a reverse transformer. kids use it for games and homework when I'm using the
IIGS.

Have you considered donating it to a daycare center or elementary school...
...I suspect that your donated system will provide an introduction to
computers for kids who wouldn't be likely to get one.

Why not use it to collect data about the weather or from your home?
Why not have it control your phone or something in your house?

Raymond Lang <lang@rex.cs.tulane.edu>

it would probably make a decent smart terminal...

There seem to be a lot of old Profile hard drives floating around
for a very low price. That, combined with the correct software,
might turn your II+ into a nice BBS.

You could use it as a mini bullitin board system, or just a game machine, or
better yet, give it to me :)
or network it to you mac or use it for word processing (faster response than
GUI's) or just use it for whatever you used it for before. Or, buy one of
those little robot arms, network it to your mac, and let it pick out the
disk you want for your mac and let it put it in, take it out, etc. etc.
(ok, so that's a stretch, but it could be done).

I once thought about writing a burgler alarm system.
a few wires and a little programming, and a few perihipials, and you have a
superb alarm system. Or you could hook up your heating system to the computer.

I also got several more frivolous comments - 'they make great boat
anchors for (small) boats' was one of the better ones!
