After several sessions of informal consulting with people at Apple, AE, and other major companies, I have decided that building a new IIGS computer is not worth it. Although several companies have shown interest in continuing to improve the series, Apple has not. Moreover Apple likes to make money selling its IIGS computer. I was told without hesitation that Apple would only part with its patents on GS ROMS and other crucial software components only during an incredibly cold day in hell. Technically equivalent ROMS could be written - but that would take an inordinately high amount of time and money - I don't have the R&D power of Apple or NEC. With little choice, I must abandon this project. The only financially feasible way to continue the GS line is to have Apple do. (Note: Several people, including my engineer and computer design friends have said that a GS computer comparable in power to the mainstream Macs and IBM clones could be built at a reasonable ($1000-$3000) price. I want to thank everyone who responded to my previous postingon the IIGS. Apple Defender
