Just MHO for the discussion of our 'comp.sys.apple2 chat'. I cannot use IRC from here. Bummer. I can, however, use FN. It seems to be a fairly nice system. I don't use it much but it works fine on our Vax 8530 running VMS and hooked to internet & bitnet (you can FTP and send mail to internet nodes but you can only 'SEND uid@host' to Bitnet addresses). Since it appears that FN is at least available to anyone who wants it (via anonymous ftp), I would rather have chat on FN. (ForumNet) Warning, FN is not 'download and go'. You have to compile it, make some directories, do some file copying, some editing. It helps to have an idea of what you are doing (or have a mentor like I did). You might also think about RELAY on bitnet. I can get to it by SEND RLY@CORNELLC (and then /SIGNON me) There are various nodes across the country if you are on a bitnet host. Again, this may not work for people who are only on internet (hmm, SEND RLY@CORNELLC.CCS.CORNELL.EDU might work. I dunno) Just my thoughts. As for our distinguished guests, we may be able to acquire.... dlyons@apple.com (Dave Lyons) mattd@apple.com (Matt Deatherage) andyn@apple.com (Andy Nicholas [I think this is his addr]) Of course all of the 'regulars' are perfectly welcome also. (I don't want to be in hot water by forgetting to mention someone <grin>) Heck, how about sculley@applelink.apple.com (Guess who..) I am sure he would love to come and tell us EXACTLY what he wants to do with the Apple II. And we can tell him EXACTLY where he can go! -- Joel Sumner GENIE:JOEL.SUMNER These opinions are q4kx@cornella.ccs.cornell.edu q4kx@cornella warranted for 90 days or q4kx@vax5.cit.cornell.edu q4kx@crnlvax5 60,000 miles. Unfortunately, I cannot make it to this event. :( I would, however like to make it to the next one. Is there someone out there that is in charge of a Internet machine with IRC??? If so, would it be possible to get an account on there just for using IRC during chats??? Sculley would never have the balls to directly adress any Apple user that would be reading this here. Why should he? We already know what he intends; Apple's actions of the last 12 months have made it clear that they intend to sell Mac "workstation" to the next generation of engineers, executives, etc. (i.e. forget education and computerizing the world for he benefit of mankind, we're going for the bucks)...... Oh, I don't think that's the case. Apple wants to sell computers for education. But they want them to be Macs. Apple tried, for the better part of the '80s to get rid of the Apple II. They've probably spent hundreds of millions in the attempt (i.e. in designing the Apple ///, the various incarnations of the Mac, plus marketing). Now their long, bumbling effort is beginning to work. It's clear to all...The Apple of old is dead (Geld uber alles). ---------------------------------- | MARK A. The get together was informating, and fun. Among other people, we had Andy McFadden, Timothy Meekins, Scott Alfter, the unknown user, and a fellow from Sweden, Erland Lewin (poor fellow, it was 1 in the morning for him!). I will edit (take out offencive, and irrelevant parts, along with the vt100 crap, unless Timothy Meekins has done that already) and post a summary. Since the next weekend is so close to Christmas, I won't make a show (I will be skiing in Quebec), nor will many others. This is how I figure things though: Meetings will be every Saturday, at 7pm EDT (4pm California time, and 1am the next day in Sweden :), on the IRC, channel +Apple. Unless otherwise stated. So next meeting is "cancelled", but the Saturday after that one (First Saturday in January) will be in order. I want MORE people to show up! The regulars of csa2, Todd P Whitesel, Doug Gwyn, and more. Along with a few "guest" appearances, Matt Deatherage, Dave Lyons, Parik Rao.. Could the above individuals mail me via my best path, and tell me if they can make a show or not, if so, when. It would be wonderful to have a whole bunch of people on. Everybody is welcome. It was fun, and a good idea (modesty alert), and I hope to do this again! /* Marek Pawlowski, marekp@{generic|pnet91|contact|bkj386|torag|aunix}.uucp */ /* President, Intelligent Twist Software, 250 Harding Blvd, PO BOX 32017 */ /* Richmond Hill, Ontario, L4C 9M7, CANADA.
