This is two-part question. First, does anyone know if the company that supprted and distributed ASCII Express is still in business? I forgot to get the upgrade that included the GS serial port when it was announced several years ago since I had pretty much stopped using AE; kermit did what I needed to do and AE only emulated VT52's. The reason I ask is that the dial-up/login sequence I now find myself using has gotten long enough that I want to go back to using some kind of scripting ability. Kermit's is too primitive: it doesn't allow you to wait for a particular response. AE's was just fine and once connected it could automatically invoke kermit. What other telecommunications programs are there that can do that? (free or shareware best) TMPLee@dockmaster.ncsc.mil

I think you should just get ProTERM. It does everything AE did and more. And I think AE is/was awesome. You have a scripting language... (Does anyone out there remember "The Wonderful World of Ascii Express Macros" by yours truly, The Unknown User??? I was sick of nobody knowing how to get AE to redial a Smartmodem type modem, so I wrote a few big long files about it in a few different revisions.. Even people I didn't like recommended people to me when they needed help with AE macros) But even with all that experience, ProTERM blows AE away.. The ONLY two things that AE had that I wish ProTERM did were: 1)Online Run.. So you could have a BBS then run PRoTERM as an "AE line" (so to speak!) 2) Masking out characters.. This helps when you have a little bit of line noise.. Line noise often comes as }s to me, so if you could just mask out the } you'd effectively have less line noise... (Often when you have line noise only your end gets it so it doesn't hurt anything to mask out the characters) -- /Apple II(GS) Forever! unknown@ucscb.ucsc.edu MAIL ME FOR INFO ABOUT CHEAP CDs\ |WRITE TO ORIGIN ABOUT ULTIMA VI //e and IIGS! They are located just north of Los Angeles in the 818 (I think) area code.. The company President is Robert Williamson.. -- bsherman@mthvax.cs.miami.edu | bsherman@pro-exchange | MCI MAIL:BSHERMAN
