This is a post I posted locally on my system, but then thought I might be able to get a bunch of help from you guys out there. I mention a few stores and such that are only in the Bay Area, but you can just ignore that.. I'll probably add on a few more questions to the end of the quoted part that are GS specific... Here goes: I got a 40 meg hard drive for $149 at Fry's today and it's just the mechanism (I knew that before I bought it). {Another thing added to the original post.. they also had a new, in-box //e for sale for $49! I was amazed, it was grabbed by someone else IMMEDIATELY. And I heard other people talking about it too! Even though it's such a great deal, I'm amazed a whole bunch of people were so interested in a SUPPOSEDLY "out of date, underpowered" computer} Looking at it from the back, there's three sets of pins.. The middle set is obviously where the drive hooks up...But it's a rectangular set of pins.. Does a 'regular' SCSI cable go from this rectangular set of pins (with two little plastic lever things to hold the cable on when you connect it, I think) to a 25 pin connector? To the left of the main set of pins, there's a set of 8 pins with a molex connector on one pair right now.. Is that to set the SCSI id number?! To the right of the main set of pins is a little plastic "box" with four wide cylindrical pins sticking up out of the open end of the box.. I would presume this is the power supply. Am I correct? Now for my main questions: Is there any way I can power this thing FROM MY COMPUTER? My computer will only have two cards in it, and it seems that if a computer can give enough power to turn a floppy drive, it should be able to turn a hard drive... IF not, where can I get a cheap case & power supply? I was thinking Halted or Haltek.. How much power do I need? There's like --no-- document- ation with this thing (except the little info page that says 0 hard, soft, or seek errors.. How much will the case & power supply cost? thanks for your info.. I wanna get this thing going ASAP. This is the end of the post I posted locally. Now I want to know where I can get a program that will do interleaving on the DMA SCSI card. It seems to me that nobody ever really found a program that would do this, but now I'm gonna try to harp about it until I get a definite answer (heh)...since I'm a member of the hard drive owning community now (FINALLY). -- /Apple II(GS) Forever! unknown@ucscb.ucsc.edu MAIL ME FOR INFO ABOUT CHEAP CDs\ \WRITE TO ORIGIN ABOUT ULTIMA VI //e and IIGS!
