[comp.sys.apple2] 3200 colors; custom demo 3200/SS; MS-DOS

        1. I was wondering. As I understand, normal 3200 color graphics are
320x200 with 16 pure colors (x 200 for palette switching). How about 320x200
oops. I mean how about 640x200 with 4 pure colors (x 200 for palette swiching)
= 800 colors in 640 mode. The 4 colors / line would be a limiting factor for
conversions, but pictures custom made for the GS could be quite impressive. Is
this mode possible/used?
        2. To whomever (sorry I'm not good with names) was planning a
user-customizable demo, I've been playing Background Sound CDA with Sound
Smith music while displaying 3200 color pics with view.sys16, and with only
some picture problems (especially if you move the mouse). A demo that could
use the Sound Smith Tool Set and display 3200 color pics. without picture
distortion would be really neet. Maybe slide show the pics in directory order
without music interruption?
        3. Question for those who have written utilities to convert files
(espically text) from foreign disk formats. I am considering taking a swing at
MS-DOS, but am not sure where to start. I want to strip Word Perfect files off
720K disks using a 800K drive on my GS. Would SmartPort calls do? I remember
doing motor-stepping, manipulating the arm, lowering the read/write head, but
that was way back in Disk ][ / DOS 3.3 land... Inside Apple ProDOS was a good
book on the Disk ][. What like it exists for an AE 3.5" (or Apple Platinum
drive)?

Thankee!!!!
