I just ftp'd to apple.com to see how large the 5.0.4 files would be. All I could find were 3 504*.hqx files and 2 .txt files. My understanding is that the .hqx is a result of the Mac program BinHex 4.0. Is there a BinHex for the IIGS? Or do you need a Mac to obtain the 5.0.4 GSOS via ftp? Rob Glenn glenn@osi.ncsl.nist.gov

Or do you need a Mac to obtain the 5.0.4 GSOS via ftp? Nope, you don't need a Mac! You just need UNIX and the GS. (The good GS users have thwarted the evil Mac people's attempts to force us to use the evil machines in our attempt to receive the latest lim /_\ x -> 0 system software update. {yeah that doesn't really make sense.} What will the Mac people do next? See next week's episode, same Bat Time, same Bat Channel) Get mcvert from sumex.stanford.edu (via anon. ftp), and /bin/sh it (on UNIX), then you'll get mcvert, a program that'll remove things from BinHex archives. Actually it's useful for other things... Sounds and pictures on ftp sites are sometimes BinHezed. So you un-BinHex it on UNIX, un-StuffIt it (with Shrinkit GS) on the GS, and un-dImg it on the GS with a program one of the regulars on here whipped up quickly. -- /Apple II(GS) Forever! unknown@ucscb.ucsc.edu MAIL ME FOR INFO ABOUT CHEAP CDs\ \WRITE TO ORIGIN ABOUT ULTIMA VI //e and IIGS!
