I have been using WordPerfect GS (2.1 or so) for several years and am quite happy with it. The files it produces are upwardly compatible with MSDOS WP 4.2. What that means is MSDOS WP can read any GS WP file, but not the other way around. GS WP does not implement all of the 4.2 WP functions. If you have a document that does not use the unimplemented functions you can readily transfer it back and forth. (I wrote a quick and dirty filter to flag all unimplemented codes -- thanks to the Apple file type documentation on apple.com -- but it doesn't handle some of them right.) I happen to do it either over a modem or using my PC Transporter. In either case make sure you use full 8-bit transfers, no translation. I've seen it mail order lots of places; Software Etc. also has had it; didn't bother to check the prices. My only concern is that it appears no longer to be under active development, and I'm not even sure they have anyone to even fix bugs. (I was a beta tester -- their bulletin board for Apple GS testers shut down without any warning maybe six months ago, even though the ones for all the other products continued.) (It does have one or two bugs, but they can be worked around -- other than them, it is an extremely robust piece of sofware.) TMPLee@dockmaster.ncsc.mil
