[comp.sys.apple2] NTSC to RGB converter

Has anyone looked at/tried out the NTSC to RGB converter in the October
1990 issue of Radio-Electronics magazine? It'll convert standard NTSC/RS-170A
video to analog RGB. The article says that it requires a multisync monitor
since it need a horizontal scanning rate of 15.75Khz. According to the
article, only CGA and multisync monitors have that quality, and CGA doesn't
have analog inputs. Now, looking at the manual for my AppleColor RGB monitor
for my GS, it says that the horizontal scanning rate is 15.734KHz. I know
the inputs are analog, so is this close enough for it to work? I think that
this would be a pretty neat thing to have around. The cost isn't too bad...
it's about $75 if you build everything yourself, and around $85 if you get
the printed circuit board from them (which is probably what I'll do since
it's a pretty big hassle to buy all etching solutions and special film and
stuff just to make one PCB.)

Any comments, suggestions, warnings? If you have seen the article, have
you been able to find the location of IC3, the voltage regulator on the
parts layout diagram? (Fig. 4)
