A while back my //c (original model) died, and a computer store technician told me it needed a new motherboard, which would cost $400 parts & labor. That's more money than I've got to spend. But I've seen ads for //c motherboards for about $130. Now that's more within my budget. My problem is that I'm hardware-illiterate. I've never even used a soldering iron before. Do I stand a chance of being able to replace the motherboard myself? Somebody please post or mail me some instructions or advice! Thanx. ======================================================================== Timothy Klein These are Mead Data Central timk@meaddata.com MY thoughts, Box 933 ...!uunet!meaddata!timk not Mead's. A while back I posted a request for info on how to inexpensively replace the motherboard in my Apple //c. My friendly neighborhood official Apple dealership told me they'd do it for $400. But a friendly netter gave me the address of a place in New Jersey called Arminius Publications and Products that performs that little operation for $100, postage included. I sent them my computer, and they had it back to me, good as new, within a week! Excellent service. To the poster who sent me that info -- THANKS! You saved me quite a few bucks. I would thank you "personally" by e-mail, but I lost your address. Sorry. To anyone else whose //c has lost its oomph -- I'll be happy to send you Arminius' address. =========================================================================== Timothy Klein I wish TV had a knob so you could turn up timk@meaddata.com the intelligence. I was not the one who supplied you with the name of that company who replaced your //c's motherboard, but I have info for you or anyone else who is in a similar situation. A mail-order firm called Alltech Electronics Co., Inc., in California sells all sorts of old Apple II hardware. Such items as peripheral cards, original manuals, RAM chips, CPU's MMU's, IOU's, Cases, and ...! Mother Boards. Just look in a recent copy of InCider/A+ to find an advertisement from this place. --- QuickBBS 2.75 Ovr (Gamma-1) * Origin: Jaguar's NetWorking Labs, (303)377-2371 HST/v.32 (200:5000/500.0) -- ============================================================================= In Phase - via MetroNet node 200:5000/301 The Bohemia BBS System, Boulder Colorado (303)449-8946 UUCP: In.Phase@p0.f500.n5000.z200.METRONET.ORG or : ...!boulder!bohemia.METRONET.ORG!500.0!In.Phase =============================================================================
