[comp.sys.apple2] Mac LC vs. GS

CSCHERRER@RUBY.VCU.EDU (02/01/91)

Yet, another response to the correction to price comparison of the
Apple GS and Mac LC.

Being a student I see a Mac LC available for $1580 and
a 12" color monitor for $419.30. For a grand total of
	$1999.30.

Now, there is no educational discont available for the Apple IIGS that I
know about. So I can't see any reason to get one until the price comes
down much lower on the GS.

Yes, Apple does have educational discounts for the II. Only they
don't tell anyone about it and which makes them very difficult to obtain. If
you want to, try talking to your computing services on campus. They might be
able to get you one, although its a slim chance. It has always bewildered me
that the II has been able to survive this long despite all the negative support
the line has had the past 5+ years. When the mac came out, all the major
computer stores started promoting that and completely ignored the II. I talked
to a computer supplier for our school, and he stated that the Mac was the only
apple computer they actively market and encourage students to buy. Software
stores haven't carried a new Apple II title in years, and only have about
5 titles on the shelf. The educational discounts that Apple has provided to
the schools for the II have been poorly designed, and barely promoted. And
Apple's general promotion of the line has been zilch... Yet despite
all this, the //gs was one of Apple's top selling units from 1986-1989, and
what did we hear? How outdated the machine was and how the Mac was the
computer of the future. I can't understand why a company would activly try
to discontinue one of its best selling lines. Its been a shame to watch a
company take advantage of so many people and get away with it.......
