[comp.sys.apple2] Postscript FIles GS -> Mac

platkus@en.ecn.purdue.edu (Shawn W Platkus) (01/23/91)

I was wondering if anyone knew of a program for the mac that can download
postscript files to the laserwriter? I am using a GS to create the postscript
files and Apple File Exchange to port them to the mac. The file is
genereated in ASCII on the GS, so does the filetype need to be modified once
its on the mac?
To those of you who care, you can create postscript files from any
GS program that supports the standard printing toolbox calls. That is
most programs with the desktop interface ie. AppleWorks GS, GraphicWriter,
etc.
I can post a pretty detailed description of how to do this if
anyone is interested. You can reply to me through mail or post something here.

SendPS and MS Word will do this. The filetype should be TEXT, creator can be
just about anything. I think if you use the text translation, AFX will set
the filetype to TEXT, but if you use the default translation, it will be
pdos or something like that. You can use ResEdit or some other utility
to change the filetype if you need to.

On a slightly different topic:
How long can auxtypes be in ProDos? I noticed that the GS/OS GetFileInfo/Set
FileInfo return a long word for the auxtype, but none of the programs that
I've seen use the upper word. If all 4 bytes are usable, we can have neat
ASCII auxtypes like the Mac :-)

There is a program for the Mac called SendPS. It does a wonderful job
of downloading PS files. If you want I can send it to you.

Also, some of the font downloading programs for the Mac also have routines
to download raw Postscript source.
