[comp.sys.apple2] control template

How can i create a control template that does the  following:

1. when the user types in a window, print a default string and then have
   the user enter input.

2. when return is pressed, i should then be able to get at what text was
   entered.

3. also, the user cannot backspace over the default string that is printed.
