[comp.sys.apple2] Hard Drive Access Control

cfw@Res-C4.Prime.COM (Christopher Wroten) (02/13/91)

I just bought a iigs with a hard drive. I have a 10 year old son
whose access to the hard drive I'd like to limit. I'd like to have
a password protection scheme come into play whenever the harddrive is
opened". Thus, booting from a floppy would show the harddrive as being
there, but when you double-click on the harddrive icon, you must enter
the password to successfully open it. This would also occur when you
boot from the harddrive itself. Once "opened" and access is gained,
no further validation would be required, until the next time when the
drive was "opened." Even if the gs is shutdown with hard drive windows
open on the screen, the next time it is booted, a password still must
be given. I suspect I need an init or some sort of intercept.

Anyone out there have something that suits my need?

I saw something the other day on an Apple BBS which might do exactly what
you are asking for. Before I get your hopes up too high, I'm going to
download it (it's probably PD/shareware) and try it out. If it does what you
want it to do, then I'll mail you a copy.
