To convert a 320 mode (Allison currently only does 320 mode - future versions will do 640 mode) picture to 640 mode, you can obtain (purchase) any of the following programs: SuperConvert (Best color translations when using raw images) The Graphic Exchange (Ok, but not great color translations) Second Chance (Great monochrome translations) or... If you have a paint program such as Platinum Paint, you can do direct to system palette translation (can lose detail when remapping colors). Additionally, you can save the Allison picture as an Apple Preferred file and have AWGS attempt the translation for you (can be good, can be bad). If you have Paintworks Gold, you can perform the following steps: 1. Load graphic. 2. Select marquee tool. 3. Press spacebar. 4. Select entire screen or portion you wish to translate. 5. Press spacebar. 6. Select cut from the Edit menu. 7. Select change to 640 from the Apple menu. 8. Select paste adj. colors from the Edit menu. 9. Save the graphic as an Apple Preferred file. NOTE: This method produces identical results to the Platinum Paint method. If you wish to use pictures converted with this method in AWGS, you will need to first load the PWG palette picture in AWGS's graphics module. The picture should import just fine in other AWGS modules. In a previous post, someone said this... " In a couple of words: you can't. AWGS must use 640-mode graphics, and 320-mode pictures (which is what I assume the Allison pictures are in) don't look very nice at all when converted to 640-mode. There aren't nearly enough colours, and AWGS doesn't do multiple palettes. Brian T. Tao {taob@pnet91.cts.com} || Computer guru? They must be converted first, though. The methods I outlined and the programs I mentioned do jobs ranging from outstanding to ok... Additionally, pictures made with Allison (NOT Allison/3200) use a single palette. Hope this clears up some confusion. -- *Scott Gentry |UUCP:uunet!ingr!gentrys | * *Intergraph Corporation |America Online: AFL Scott |I speak for myself * *2051 Mercador Drive |GEnie: W.GENTRY | * *Reston, VA 22091 |CIS:72000,1536 (rarely) | *

The original poster wanted to know if it was possible to import Allison pics into AWGS, complete with the original palette. Yes, you can load in the bitmap, but it will be practically impossible to match the 320-mode colours in dithered 640-mode. It would be nice if AWGS kept the original palette for each graphic in memory, and display the closest match on screen. Then when you go to print it out, it would use the original colours. Brian T. In a previous post, Brian Tao said " Yes, you can load in the bitmap, but it will be practically impossible to match the 320-mode colours in dithered 640-mode." Yup, it's impossible to get an exact match but with some fiddlin' and faddlin' you can get pretty darn close. :-) Scott (blatent hints of the future notwithstanding) _______________________________________________________________________________ | Scott Gentry * ALPE AFL Scott * I never said that!| | 2051 Mercator Drive * GEnie W.GENTRY * But you never | | Reston, VA 22091 * UUCP: uunet!ingr!ne1300! * know! | | (703) 264-5652 * brnded!scott * Do You? | |_____________________________________________________________________________|
