I have noticed this problem too. The noise is not loud, and the room has to be quiet to hear it. But as I drag the mouse down a list of menu items, each item produces a different pitch at a different volume. Generally the pitches seems to be more noticable (i.e. louder) for menu items near the top of the screen. I'm not sure whether it comes from the speaker or not. BTW, I have a WOZ machine upgraded to ROM1. It would be interesting to know the root cause of this.
