[comp.sys.apple2] LRO Computer Sales and Octoram

scotth@ux1.cso.uiuc.edu (Scott Henderson) (03/07/91)

A while ago, I read a post about someone who was flamed for bad mouthing
LRO computer sales based on "word of mouth" information.

Here's a real story about my recent encounter with LRO. This is a first
hand account and this situation still is not resolved.

On February 12th, on the advice of some fellow Netters, I ordered an
Octoram Memory Card from LRO computers. I asked the saledman if the
item was in stock and was told that he had one left. I then went through
the formalities, gave the man my credit card, and was told that he would
send the Octoram out "right away."

Ten days passed by: no octoram. I called and asked about the situation on
my order. "Well, sir, we're currently waiting on one part before we can
get you your Octoram Card. The distributor who ships us the part promised
us the part in three days."

I asked, "Well, do you think I'll have it in a week?"

"Yessir," said the salesman.

10 more days went by: no octoram. I called back to check on the status
of my order. "Well sir, we still haven't received our shipment of
Octorams yet (notice now, they're not waiting for a part, but for their
shipment of Octorams...). I'll check on the status of them (put me on hold)."

"Sir, we're going to try to get a hold of the distributor. Give me your
phone number, and we'll get back to you within the hour. (I give him my
phone number, salesman puts me on hold again).

"Sir, here's the number of a distributor you can call to verify that the
Octorams are shipping: 815-758-7040. Again, we're going to try to get a hold
of them within the hour and we'll get back to you."

Well, I tried calling that number and I got a hold of some dry cleaning
establishment. I also waited an hour for a return call. It never came.

Tomorrow, I plan to call up and cancel my order. I will probably have to call
Visa as well and try to prevent LRO from processing my Visa Card.

Does anyone know of another distributor carrying the Octoram? I REALLY want
one of these.

Heh. Sorry but the minute you heard the phrase "We're waiting for
more Octorams from our distributer," you should have gone somehere else.
MDIdeas that made the Octoram went bankrupt over a year ago. :( As far as I
know of, no one purchased the manufacturing rights for the Octoram Memory card
which is too bad, because its a really nice card...
