I have an Apple IIgs, with a vulcan 40 internal hd. I was wondering if there is any way to put a password on the hd so that when the computer is turned on, and the finder is loading from the hd, it would pause, and ask for a password before giving access to the finder. Since I am not a subscriber to this group, please send answers via personal e-mail to TSCEH@ALASKA.BITNET Thanx in advance -Case 'PHANTOM' Harris

Thanks to all who answered my queries about passwords a couple of weeks ago. I finally ordered vol 3 of Apple's Toolbox Reference, and found that setting password fields is even easier than anyone suggested. I found that by setting the high bit on the maxSize field in a lineedit control item in an ordinary dialog box, asterisks would be echoed when keys would be pressed. Nothing more sophisticated is needed. I checked it out, changed the size to 0x800A rather than 10, and I had my password field. It's all on Page 34-2. There isn't even any need to look at the information on the update to the Control Manager. __________________________________________________________ | | | Alan H.
