[comp.sys.apple2] Hypercard IIGS

Take heart fellow Apple II enthusiasts- today is truly a great day,
a day I will remember for a very long time...

HyperCard IIgs exists. I have seen it with my own eyes. It requires
1.5M of RAM, and a hard drive (perfect use for a GS on a Mac file server).
With HyperCard I have also seen System 5.0.3, and you're all in for a pleasant
surprise. Unfortunately, there was no HFS FST to be seen, but changes
aplenty were to be found in the new System Disk and System Tools. New
versions of printer drivers, toolsets, etc. are on 5.0.3.

I will certainly post more information as it becomes available to me.

oh, One last thing about HyperCard- it does support the concepts of
scripting and XCMDs and XCF?s etc.. but it does not directly support use
of Mac stacks (resource incompatibilities). A resource converter which
would actually translate a Mac format resource into a GS format resource
(i.e. change data structures around, etc) would likely make it possible
to use Mac stacks... but as was discussed here on csa2 before, direct
use is next to impossible.

This is NO JOKE. You all know me well enough to know I wouldn't
put you on like this.

    A P P L E I I F O R E V E R ! ! ! ! ! !

Well, if you saw HyperCard GS (probably off the latest DEVELOP CD, 'cause where
else would you have gotten it?), then you probably know that there will be a
conversion program. The only problem is that conversion will first have to be
run on the Mac, then the files transfered to the GS, and then the stack will be
converted.

Unlike IIGS System Disks, which MUST be installed with the installer for
correct operation, HyperCard IIGS can be easily and safely installed by hand.
We provided the installer to provide easy, automatic installation for those
who aren't sure what they want to do. But putting HyperCard IIGS on a
hard disk or network volume is as easy as creating a HyperCard folder and
dragging all of the files to it.

Rick also mentions that it takes some 3.5 Mb on his hard disk. If space
is a premium, you'll find that most of the space is taken up by demo and
introductory stacks. You can easily pull stacks out if you need to, and
little-used stacks can be run off of floppies with no problem (except speed).
