I am finally considering buying a new monitor for my //gs to
replace the color composite one I have. Does anyone out there
in netland own or have experience with the Magnavox RGB
monitor advertised in inCider/A+ in some of the mail order
listings? If so, could you post your praise &/or complaints
about it? I need your advice to make a sound purchase (it
is a contest between the Apple RGB monitor & the Magnavox...
unless there is another option I don't know about.)

I have an idea for another option that is most likely what I would have done if I had known about it at the time.. Buy an AMIGA monitor. Yes, the "enemy"'s monitor. (JUST KIDDING, when I finally eventually in a million years want/need a new computer, it'll either be a NeXT or an Amiga.. but I'll still use the GS).. They're CHEAP (I think like $200!)... Also, they have: 1) Analog RGB.. For the GS. 2) Digital RGB.. Maybe if you ever want to use it on an IBM or //e with RGB card. 3) I -think- an NTSC input, so you could watch TV on it too or use it as a monitor for a VCR or whatever. 4) SOUND input. I think "only" one speaker, but it has a volume control too... Much more useful than the damn built-in speaker... (for when you don't want to use external speakers) I can't think of any more reasons, although I believe at one time I had a few more... Besides, it can't be any worse than the GS monitor! It is a real nice monitor. I bought one myself. Here's the problem: Since most of the Apple vendors do not sell mass quantaties of these monitors, they sell these monitors for more money than other IBM type vendors. For example, Quality Computers sells that monitor for $299.95. The same monitor can be bought from Lyco Computers for $249.95. Now that I've hopefully saved you $50. Here's my feelings about the Magnavox cable. You'll need to make your own cable or buy it from QC. You can convert the cable that comes with the monitor for about $3, if you are handy with a soldering iron. I LOVE this monitor! It has more features than Apple's, including 2 speakers for stereo sound (will work great if you have a stereo card, but it's better than just the rinky-dink apple speaker). You can also hook more than just an Analog RGB to the monitor, so if you ever (heaven forbid) decide to get a computer other than your GS, you'll be able to hook it up. One more thing. The magnavox monitor is bigger. It's easier to read, and there's less interference in the finder screen on the Magnavox than on Apple's RGB.
