If you noticed my last few posts you may have noticed that I got a Ramworks III. It was supposed to be 1 meg, but is temporarily at 768k while I await replacement of one ram chip that was bad. In playing with it, I find a couple of things that I would like to be able to do that sound like they are doable, but I can't seem to make them happen. First, there is ramdrive to create a ram disk for dos 3.3, and prodrive to make one for prodos. Is there any way I could just copy files to the ramdrive, switch to prodos, and have the files be intact? Not really a necessary function but it would save me a step. Second, I would like to split the prodos ram disk into two drives. I thought I could just create the prodrive, locking out the 2nd 64k (normal prodos ramdisk space), switch it to a different drive location, rename it, and then have prodos create its normal /ram disk. However I can't get this to work. No matter what I do, I can only get one unique ram disk (even though it may be located in two different drive locations, say s3d2 and s5d2, it's the same disk). Has anyone ever done either of these things?

I really don't think there's a way to partition the ProDrive on RamWorks. You can change the emulated S and D, but I don't think you can have two of them.

In-Reply-To: message from kjs39186@uxa.cso.uiuc.edu I have created a DOS 3.3 RAM DISK and I have been able to keep it when I use ProDOS. When you have it, instead of CTRL-APPLE-RESET, use PR#x. Also the IIgs can use 2 ram Disks with out any problem. ALL Apple II computers with 128k or more have a RAM DISK in Slot 3, DRive 2. /RAM/ Then IIgs can have one with /RAM/ and /RAM5/. In-Reply-To: message from ART100@psuvm.psu.edu Well, if you have the utility disk that you got with Ramworks III you should be able to do everything you want.

Sombebody said that they installed the RAM disk under DOS 3.3, then just PR#'d into ProDOS and the RAM disk was kept intact. I tried this on a //e and it DIDN'T work.

I remember somewhere in the docs that you have to tell DOS 3.3 ram drive driver to lock out the bottom 64k of the Ramworks. Otherwise ProDOS will write over the bottom of your DOS 3.3 ramdrive when creating it's standard /RAM drive. Brendan G. I re-ran the ramdisk driver, changing it to slot 5, and again, copy II+ didn't recognize it. However, when I re-booted dos 3.3, the files on the ramdrive were intact. Now while this is all fine and good, what I wanted (and am not so interested in now) was being able to access a dos 3.3 ramdisk from prodos. Now, it makes sense that this is not possible, since the ramdisk driver was a temporary modification to dos 3.3 itself, which is not included in the copy II+ dos 3.3 routines. As it turned out, I had to use prodos anyway. But I am *still* interested in getting two ramdisks at the same time, if it's possible. If Prodos 8 does it automatically on the GS, it should be able to be done on the //e as well.
