[comp.sys.apple2] Byte Works Design Master?

billh@hplsla.HP.COM (Bill Harris) (03/27/91)

Does anyone have experience using ByteWorks' Design Master? I saw the
description in the ByteWorks upgrade offer, and it sounds like a reasonable
interface builder, like I have heard of on other windowing systems.

I presume that it will in some sense allow you to create various dialogs
using a mouse and then instantiate the dialog in C, Pascal or assembly when
you get what you want. You can then presumably include that code in your
application.

Is this the way it works? Does it work reasonably well? Does it require
anything in the way of resources that Orca/C or Orca/Pascal doesn't?

Thanks,

Bill Harris

Bill, I have Design Master, and I think its great. I have not written any
programs yet because I just started on the GS, and I just got a hold of all
the manuals I needed, but I have set up windows, dialog boxes, and alert boxes
with Design Master. It will let you save them out as C, Pascal, or Assembler
code, and it will let you save them out as resources. The manual includes a
nice little tutorial that steps you through the creation of a simple word
processor. There are a few parts where the manual does not match what you see
on the screen, but if you go by the manual you will be ok. I created the
windows, alert and dialog boxes by flipping through the manual, so you don't
have to use the tutorial. It saves its code out as Orca source, but I guess
you could save it as a resource and use that.
