Someone recently asked if Kermit could be made to run OK at 2400 baud on a PCT. I am currently using kermit 2.32 on my PCT, on a GS, at 2400 baud. It is using the VT102 emulation and seems to work fairly well. It does lose a character every once in a long while. It is clear that the timing is marginal; my understanding is that the problem is in the screen updating. I seem to remember that I had to turn buffering on on the GS modem port, but I just did an experiment where I turned the buffering off and that didn't seem to make any difference; I rebooted GS/OS & the PCT after I turned the buffering off -- what I don't remember is if in fact you need a cold boot to make that kind of port parameter change effective. In any case, even though it might lose a character every once in awhile on the screen, kermit protocol transfers themselves are fine, since there is no need to scroll large regions of the screen. I actually don't use the PC Kermit much since the Apple kermit is fine for almost all I do. About the only time I use it is if I want to transfer a very large file, in which case the truly extended packets on the PC Kermit are helpful. (I tend to use 1000 byte packets then; Apple kermit can only handle 255 or so.) (I haven't yet bothered to upgrade to kermit 3.0; 2.32 has more bells and whistles than I want anyway.)
