[comp.sys.apple2] Apple GS in ads

KMILES@AARDVARK.UCS.UOKNOR.EDU ("Kurt W. Miles 329-7303", 405) (04/03/91)

For those of you who keep track of such things (not that we would do such a
thing :) ), in the March 1991 issue of T.H.E. Journal (Technological Horizons
in Education), I found the Apple GS in _4_ ads.

#1.	A picture of the Apple IIe, II GS, mac classic, and the mac lc.
Unfortunately, the ad, from Macintosh, Inc. only talks about the macs, and how
they are the next step in evolution , but at least they showed a GS. (Oh yeah,
inside front cover, full color, etc.)

#2	Page 54. Ad for security devices to keep computers, fax machines, and
mac from being stolen. (Compu-Gard)

#3	Page 65. Ad for security devices to keep computers, and VCRs
from being stolen. (Security Stick)

#4.	Page 82. New product announcement about security device to keep
computers, VCRs and other electronic stuff from being stolen. (Security
Stick, See #3. Different picture, though).

OOPS. Found another oone. Page 24. A device for sharing one printer with up
to 5 Apple IIe or Apple II GS machine. (MECC ETC+) Only the right side of the
macine is shown, but iti is a GS, and they do say "GS" and "APPLE IIe" .

And to all you Maccies who are offended because I insulted the Mac, I was not
serious. I have used several different breeds of the Mac, and I think it is
an excellent machine for some purposes. So is the IBM, the Unix machines I
have used, and the VAX/VMS. So don't bother with hate mail.

Yeah, real nice of them to show the //e and GS in such a nice light.
The four computers are lined up side by side, with the //e on the left,
the GS to its right, the Mac Classic next to that, and the LC on the
far right. On the screen are several pictures. I think the //e
screen has a graphic of a stone wheel, the GS screen has a picture of
the Wright Bros. plane, the Classic has a jet airplane, and the LC
has a picture of an Apollo rocket. The headline implies that the
Classic and LC are the next steps in the evolution of the commputer.

Lets give Apple a couple of really hard raps on the knuckles with a
ruler for showing their own computers as archaic and outdated technology.
Nothing like making your own customers (schools) feel like they have
just purchased a piece of worthless technology (a stone wheel? come on!).
Those marketing types really must have their heads in the sand DEEP.
I'm not even a marketing type but I think I could figure out that its
not a good idea to publicly degrade your own products, especially when
they still make money for you.

Hopefully the rumors about continued (and improved) development for the //
are true and we wont have to cringe at the sight of ads like these
anymore.
