[comp.sys.apple2] Apple ][+ repair/regeneration/refurbish

fjvanwet@zeus.unomaha.edu (03/28/91)

this is my first attempt at posting to the newsgroup. Here is my problem:

I have an Apple II+ sitting in my office. It has a wopping 64K memory (48K
plus a 16K graphics card-monochrome). The last time it was powered on was
well over 4 years ago. However, at that time, it worked fine. In fact, I
simply shut it off and never turned it back on.

Now the ][+ has a significant amount of dust on the parent-board (even though
it had been covered with a dust cover for all this time...) and when I tried to
power it up the other day, NOTHING HAPPENED! No drive activity, no hum, no
nothing.

Can anyone give me some troubleshooting ideas? I have been saving the ][+ for
my boy (it will be his 'first' computer) and I am a bit disappointed that now
it does not seem to work.

Any help will be appreciated. Please reply directly to me at either of the
addresses below:

Sounds like the power cord is loose...

Or it could be dust in the switch contacts. Does the little red LED
on the motherboard come on?

The ][+ doesn't have an LED on the motherboard. Only the //e had that.

Dusting off the whole motherboard is an excellent idea, though. Never
underestimate the power of dust.

The /// has an LED light on the motherboard. That's what flickers
on/off after about 5 minutes of use on the one I have at school.
Renders the machine pretty useless!

What about the "power" key on the keyboard? Does it light up?

It should. Unless it's broken like mine.
