[comp.sys.apple2] GS trade-in

asong@pro-nbs.cts.com (Andi Song) (03/17/91)

RE: the Univerisites offering GS trade-ins for Mac equipment.

Are there any Apple dealers or any places that offer this besides
Universities? And to all the San Diegans in California, is there any place
around here that does it? Such as San Diego State and UCSD, or USD? Mesa?
Grossmont? USIU?

I'm going to college soon (next year) and am worried about my
computer setup. I plan to lug my GS along with me, but am worried about
compatibility with the school's systems, which probably are Macintoshes. So
unless that damned Duet card (CirTech, are you listening?) comes out, I
might have to switch over to the Mac world. Or (GASP!!) IBM.

Is this program sanctioned/approved/encouraged by Apple Computer? Or is it a
local promotion? Is this Johnny Sculley's version of "sales, service and
support"... "well into the 90's".... it's only 1991 :(

According to the Apple Rep for the University of Missouri - Rolla, the Apple
trade-in for Macs does not exist in any form.

Same here, at UT Chattanooga.

Perhaps not there, but it surely does fifteen miles south of here at
Princeton. I know a few people who are planning to trade in their
IIgs systems for Mac LCs or IIsi's. I may even do it myself.

I asked the local campus computer shop about it a few days ago. The
person I talked to said that they probably weren't participating because
they were a non-profit store, part of the local campus bookstore. They
had no buy-back arrangements.

Simply put, "OFFER NOT GOOD IN ALL LOCATIONS."

I've examined the U of Illinois trade-in information closely; the only thing
I see about availability in it is "This offer will not be repeated again this
year."

I know for certain that the Ohio State University is also offering the
deal, and the person above says Princeton is as well. I imagine it's part of
a test/pilot program of some sort.

Sun Remarketing is not mentioned anywhere in the literature, which has the
Apple logo and trademarks all around. If Sun Remarketing is indeed involved,
does anyone know if their stock is traded? I know they're going to be rolling
in dollars when this is all said and done.

[Meanwhile, I'm readying my offer signs to hold as I stand outside the Levis
Faculty Center next Monday... Be looking for us in misc.forsale.computers.
  :)]

Yup, I believe it going on at Ohio State also. I've heard from a Mac owner
that there are also trade-ins for Macintosh equipment. This isn't an Apple II
only trade-in.
